PROJECTS
Bangladesh Environment and Development Society (BEDS)
This film takes place in the Sundarbans, Bangladesh; the world’s largest mangrove forest and UNESCO natural world heritage site. This area is also particularly vulnerable to landslides, riverbank erosion, and cyclones, threatening the lives and livelihoods of its people. BEDS has worked to build climate resiliency by constructing a cyclone shelter, conducting disaster preparedness education, and replanting mangroves.
Guiuan Development Foundation, Inc (GDFI)
Guiuan Development Foundation, Inc (GDFI) is working to build a disaster resilient community on the island of Maliwaliw in Salcedo, Eastern Samar, Philippines. The tiny island was where Typhoon Yolanda (local name Haiyan) made landfall in 2013. Yolanda was the strongest typhoon to make landfall ever recorded, and utterly decimated Maliwaliw and the region. We spent a few days on the island to profile the community and how it has rebuilt post-Yolanda.
AOSED - Bangladesh
Climate change has put additional risk and stress on already vulnerable seagoing fishing communities in the Sundarbans, Bangladesh. AOSED has worked to implement a vessel tracking system and various other life-saving measures for seagoing fishermen, while implementing village wide net building programs for women.
SHONTOUG Foundation - Philippines
The Cordillera region, in the northern Philippines, has seen increasingly chaotic weather patterns resulting in devastating disturbances for farmers. The SHONTOUG Foundation works to combine indigenous agricultural practices with modern technology to build more resilient farms. We spent a few days in Kapangan visiting the farmers and documenting the results of the work that has been implemented.
WORLD VOLUNTEER - Nepal Biogas Project
World Volunteer is an organization running small-scale development projects with international high school students. This film features their new biogas initiative in the village of Thaprek, showing how the model works and its potential benefits for the community and environment.
